Emotional health

Emotional health plays a big part in learning and success. If your child has a positive view of themselves and builds positive relationships, they will:

  • learn better
  • get better exam and test results
  • cope better with school life
  • be more confident
  • be better prepared for the future
  • be happier.

How can you help?

Take an interest in your child’s work at school – including homework. Encourage your child to set themselves realistic goals and discuss these goals with them. When your child has done well, take the time to give them praise.

Just as importantly, look out for signs of stress – including changes in your child’s routine and behaviour. If your child feels under pressure, offer your comfort and support. Don’t be afraid to get help if you need it.

If you have concerns about any aspect of your child’s school life or work, let the school know as soon as possible.
